PES it is not only a college but it is also an emotion for every students where it was established by a great leader, founder and former Education Minister Nithya Sachiva Sri. K.V. Shankara gowda .

P.E.S. College of Science, Arts & Commerce Established in 1965

P.E.S. College of Science, Arts & Commerce is a reputed Institution in the district of Mandya, with an aim to impart value based quality education to students belonging to all sections of society and to make higher education an effective instrument for socio-economic transformation in and around Mandya district.

The Institution P.E.S. College of Science, Arts & Commerce, is a dream child of late Sri K.V.Shankara Gowda, former Education Minister – Government of Karnataka, an educationist, politician, artist, entrepreneur and a social worker. Later Dr. H.D.Chowdaiah, former Member of Legislative Assembly and council, a well known educationist and a pioneer in the field of Co operation, was the Chairman of the Trust. Sri H. Honnappa, Former Member of Legislative council, was the General Secretary, Sri S. Panchalingu, Joint Secretary and Vice Presidents Sriyuths Basavaiah & G.K.Ramegowda were the office bearers of the Trust. At Present, Sri K.S.Vijay Anand, grandson of late Sri K.V.Shankara Gowda, son of late Sri K.S.Sachidananda, former ZP member, Young and energetic Youth Leader, is the Chairman of the Trust. Sri K.R.Dayananda, Retired Engineer from Government of Karnataka, is Joint Secretary.

The college is housed at present in an area of 18.02 acres of land in the heart of the city. Late Sri.K.C.Lingegowda, the then District Judge of Mysore, and a resident of Kommerahally village, Mandya taluk is the donor of 3.02 acres of land.

Besides the undergraduate college, the People’s Education Trust (PET) has the following colleges – P.E.S. College of Engineering, P.E.S. Law College, Shankaragowda College of Education, P.E.S. Pre-University College and P.E.S. High School. Other Infrastructure facilities provided to the students of our Institution are Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, V.S.V.M. Boys Hostel, P.E.T. Indoor Badminton stadium, P.E.T. Multi-Gym, P.E.T.Aquatic Centre, P.E.T. Cricket Stadium, P.E.T. Tennis Academy, Multipurpose Athletic stadium, P.E.T.Women’s Hostel, P.E.T.Working Women’s Hostel and Krishik Sarvodaya Foundation Trust (R). KSFT is an Employment Information and Competitive Examination Training Centre. It is the only Institution of its kind to have branches in all the seven Taluks of the District viz., Mandya, Maddur, Nagamangala, Pandavapura, Malavalli, Krishnarajapet & Srirangapatna.

P.E.S. College admits students who fulfill the minimum qualification requirements for admission to any course subject to the limitation of strength stipulated by the University of Mysore.

Our Alumni has members from different walks of life such as Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Teachers, Businessmen, Industrialists, Political leaders, Film Artists, Sportspersons Music Directors and Top Executives. Efforts are being made to bring them together at least once a year and to inform them about the developments in the College.

The Institution at present has Thirty two Classrooms, which are adequate to run the College in a single session.

Our college has 88% of students belonging to SC/ST and OBC (non creamy layer) and is covered under section 2(f) and 12B of UGC act. The location of the college is in Mandya city and the district is tagged as educationally backward district (as per the UGC).

The first undergraduate course began in the year 1969-70 in Commerce with an intake of 60 students. Later B.A, B.Sc and B.B.A courses were added. Post Graduate courses in Commerce (M.Com) in 2011 and Mathematics (M.Sc) in 2012 were added. Subsequently BCA, an undergraduate course was started in the year 2018.

Academic Excellence

Academic programmes in the Institution are scheduled and executed towards excellence. The aim is to benefit the Stake-holders. The global trend is on research and development and it is therefore imperative for the teachers to toe the line of research to not only equip themselves with the latest know-how, but also to impart knowledge to the students. Computer training and Remedial coaching are offered to the students to develop skills needed to the contemporary times.

Dr.J.Mahadeva from the Department of Physics, Dr.Giniswamy and Dr.M. Manjunatha from the department of Mathematics, Dr.N.Y.Sreenivasaiah from the Department of Kannada and Dr.G.V.Narasimhan, Dr.G.Parameshwari, Dr.Savitha V, Dr.Shruthi S and Dr.Amruthavarshini V from department of Commerce and Dr.Selvaraja A, Librarian have obtained Ph.D degrees from the University of Mysore. Renukaiah K S, Neelakanta, Girish V, Shivakumar M, Veeresh S K, Ramesh R and Maheshkumar are pursuing doctoral studies leading to PhD in different universities.

Girish V from the Commerce Department has authored and published 7 books for B.Com course of the university. Dr.G.V.Narasimhan from department of Commerce has edited Competitive exam study materials published by Jnanabuthi of Mysuru. Dr.G.Parameshwari has developed a MOOC Course on Business Research Methodology with the assistance of Dr.G.V.Narasimhan.

Many of our teachers have served in the Board of Studies and Board of Examiners in the University of Mysore as well as other Universities. To update recent developments in various fields teachers have been  attending and participating in seminars and conferences. During the year 2008-09 and 2009-10 about Rs. 4 lakhs were spent on symposiums. Dr.J.Mahdeva from Physics has successfully completed Minor and Major Research Projects sanctioned by the UGC. The articles concerned with the projects have been published in Internationally reputed Journals. Many of our teachers have been invited as a resource person to deliver a lecture in seminars/ conferences/ workshops. The teachers are continuously in touch with students even after the completion of their course. Training for competitive examinations like IAS, KAS, Banking service Recruitment Board examinations, CET for B.Ed, D.Ed Teachers selections, BSF, CRPF and Sub-inspectors of Police are provided every year.

Academic Achievements

Sri.K.M.Krishnegowda, one of our former student, has been Awarded for “The National Youth Services” by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri.ManMohan Singh at Bhubhaneswar, Orissa in the year 2009 with a Certificate and Cash Award of Rupees One Lakh recognizing his Exemplary contribution to Youth Services. Hundreds of students have acquired Master degrees in various disciplines and are prominently placed in different sectors such as Education, Research, Administration, Human Resource Development etc. Pre-eminent number of our former students have excelled as Academicians, Actors, Writers, Journalists, leading Politicians and in cultural activities across the country.

Benefiting from the college resources students have excelled in various fields. Nearly 40 students have secured Rank and Distinctions in the courses offered. The Folklore department has excelled at the National and International level and the Students have brought laurels to the college. Sri. S.H.Marayaiah Lecturer in Folklore is in charge of training the students in various folk dances. The Folklore department is unique as no other college in UOM has offered Folklore as one of the electives at the graduation level.
