The department was first headed by Prof. B A Krishna Swamy Rao, an eminent scientist in physics. He also had good command over languages like English, Kannada and Sanskrit etc. both spoken and written besides keen interest in sports, philosophy and literature. The physics department after this separation was headed by Prof. N Ramegowda, an highly dedicated and student friendly teacher. It was during his long tenure of over 30 years the department become popular and this helped in starting an under graduated programme in Physics and Electronics.Prof. N Ramegowda, Prof. B Sheela, Prof. M Thimmaiah, Prof G S Lingegowda and Prof. J Ravishankar was very much committed to the teaching, learning.
