Department of Mathematics

The department of mathematics was established in the year 1966, B.Sc., courses started in 1982 and M.Sc. courses started in 2012. During that time there were four faculty members in the department. They are Prof. Muthaiah, Maj. Shivanna, Prof. Shankarlingegowda and Dr. Giniswamy.
Prof. Muthaiah was the first lecturer in the deparment, later on he became the principal of the college and he served as a principal for 21 years.
Maj. Shivanna was the head of the department and also he served in NCC as a Major for more than two decades and retired on 31.08.2007.
At present in the deparment, Dr. Giniswamy working as Head and Associate Professor and Dr. Manjunatha M, working as an Assistant Professor and Mr. Punith Kumar B S working as Lecturer. Dr. Giniswamy approved as a research guide from the university of mysore, under his supervision two students are working for their Ph.D programme and among them one has submitted Ph.D thesis and another one is working. Dr. Manjunatha M is approved as an external research guide from Bharathiar University, Tamilnadu. Three students are working under his supervision for their PhD programmes.
The overall student strength of the department (UG) is261 and (PG)- 35. The department has secured 2 medals during the last five years. Some of our students have completed their B.Ed., M.Sc., MCA., M.Phi., and Ph.D. are placed as Teachers, Lecturers and holding good positions in reputed companies. The department has organized National and State Level seminars- “Functional analysis and its applications” and “Analysis and Algebraic Geometry”. Dr. Giniswamy was the organizing secretary and Dr. Manjunatha M was the organizing committee member. And organized one day workshop on,“Mathematics Practicals (with fast tools)”. For this workshop Dr. Manjunatha M was the organizing secretary and Dr. Giniswamy was the Co-ordinator. Also the department organized several lecture classes. The department is having a library with 45 books and our college library having 2815 (UG) and570(PG) and 06 mathematical journals. Two M.Sc., students have secured highest marks in Mathematics in the University Examination of May/June 2014 and they got cash price from the University of Mysore.
